TV’s top-rated drama Yellowstone’s future is in jeopardy. Reportedly, Taylor Sheridan, co-creator and showrunner, Paramount Global and Paramout Network are moving to end their popular show in its current form. However, a potential franchise extension is supposedly in the works with Matthew McConaughey in talks to star. It is unclear which of the Yellowstone cast will move over to Matthew-led series but it is expected to have several big stars.
A spokesperson for Paramount Network told an online portal, “We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come. Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built. Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner.” The network added, "Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner."
Apparently, the issue with Kevin Costner has surfaced because of disagreements over shooting schedules. Reportedly, Costner had originally limited himself to 65 days of shooting on Yellowstone, only wanted to shoot for 50 days for the first part of the current season. However, for the second batch of episodes of the current, fifth season of Yellowstone, Costner wanted to spend only a week of shooting.
Costner, who plays John Dutton, the patriarch of the Dutton clan, has been causing a source of frustration for Sheridan and other stars of the show that includes Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille and Gil Birmingham. The hit series created by Sheridan has been airing since 2018.
