Sonam Kapoor Ahuja has always been in the news for her sartorial statements and this time is no different either. The diva has got eyebrows raised with her custom Anamika Khanna x Emilia Wickstead gown that she wore while delivering a spoken word performance at King Charles III’s Coronation concert. Sonam’s floor-length gown with off-the-shoulder sleeves was compared to a bedsheet owing to the floral prints.
Now, a fashion blogger came forward to defend Sonam’s style choices for the gala and shared the significance and the ‘unique history’ behind her custom couture. He explained that “these ‘chintz' prints now commonly used for bed sheets, curtains and upholstery originated as cheent along the Coromandel coast of India. Once highly prized the world over, chintz helped revolutionise fashion and design globally. He also said that these prints were “printed, or painted in vivid colours and was traded across seas for decades" before the Europeans claimed it and started printing the imitation chintz in Netherlands, Britain and France. Coming to Sonam’s dress, the blogger called it ‘indeed a full circle moment’ as the “fabric which became dispossessed from the natives, is here being reclaimed and recontextualized."
The actress thanked the blogger for defending her printed dress and explaining the significance behind it. "Thank you for getting the whole point of this. Anamika designed the print," she wrote in the comment section and shared the story on her Instagram.
